Amaro cocktails are more often associated with summer rather than late autumn or winter. Averna Cobbler manages to bridge this gap, by being a perfectly nice sipper in the middle of the summer heat wave, as well as on the rainy autumn afternoon. That is mainly due to the choice of amaro. Averna is refreshing enough for the summer, but maintains enough deep notes making it just as suitable for winter.

Taste profile of the cocktail is dominated by the blend of amaro and vermouth. Complex botanical and fruit notes feature licorice, bitter orange, caramel, vanilla and black cherry. It blends seamlessly with the subtle taste and sweetness of blackberry marmalade. Addition of lemon juice, brings a touch of balancing tartness with garnishes finishing off the cocktail: freshness of mint, sweet blackberries and that all important bite of freshly cracked black pepper. Delicious, unusual and enlightening cocktail.

All in all, Averna Cobbler seems to be a simple cocktail on paper, but in reality, it manages to strike all the right notes: it is complex, tasty and refreshing. If you have some Averna in your liquor cabinet, give it a try.
