Cocktail author: Harry MacElhone, is said to have created created this drink in the 1920s, Harry’s New York Bar in Paris.

If you have ever tasted and loved Sidecar, one of the most famous cognac cocktails, then this is a drink for you.

Between the Sheets strongly resembles its predecessor, apart from a couple of important differences. First of all, it is not mainly a cognac cocktail. The base here is split between white or lightly aged rum and cognac, merging rum notes of sweet molasses and tropical fruit with oak notes of cognac. Together these flavours are bolstered by sweet orange of triple sec and balanced by a touch of lemon juice. Second major difference is the lack of sugary rim, which makes perfect sense keeping in mind that the amount of lemon juice is three time less than in a Sidecar. Also, 30 ml of Triple Sec and White Rum give this drink all the sweetness it needs, at least in my opinion.

I have not tasted many cognac cocktails so far, but I feel like this one is definitely worth attention. It is strong, balanced and slightly decadent a perfect drink this time of year.
