Brancolada is a modern classic cocktail, perfect for this time of the year when it is finally getting warmer.

As the name implies this cocktail draws inspiration from the incredibly popular Pina Colada and takes it a step further in a fresh and minty direction. Fernet Brancamenta is very potent and clearly present in the drink, but does not overshadow other fruity tropical notes. In my opinion it works quite well to support them. The very first thing I have noticed when taking a sip is a strong herbaceousness of Fernet slowly giving way to other flavors, taking your taste buds on a journey. A combination of pineapple, coconut and rum is a direct link to the classic Pina Colada. Although swapping white rum for funky Jamaican style with all of its fruit and molasses notes blending seamlessly with Fernet. An addition of orange juice is a nice touch, bringing a little extra fruitiness, but it can get lost rather easy. I used slightly more acidic oranges for the juice, so it pops out more, but I imagine ordinary orange juice would not be as noticeable.

Overall, Brancolada is an amazing drink. It increases the flavour complexity of ordinary Pina Colada and perhaps even brings a bit more sophistication to it. A must try for drink enthusiasts.
