Cocktail author: this cocktail recipe comes from an article by Carey Jones and John D. McCarthy.

Midori and Rye, sure sounds like a strange combination, not the kind of ingredients that are put together often. However, it results in a lovely, delicious and perhaps slightly unusual cocktail.

From the very first sip, this cocktail tastes like a fruity take on a rye sour. A bit strange in the beginning, but getting tastier and tastier with every drop. High-proof rye is very prominent, with all of its smoke and oak notes coming through. Sweet melon of Midori takes the cocktail into a completely new and fruity direction. Blending tropical tastes of the liqueur with warming burn of whisky. Addition of lemon juice helps to balance out the sweetness and brings a little bit of zingy freshness to the mix. Add the last touch of simple syrup, garnish with a few pieces of honeydew melon, and the drink is ready to go.

Midori does not have the best reputation out there, often associated with bad 80s cocktails. So, I am always looking for new and actually good recipes with this Japanese Melon liqueur and get excited when I come across one. Midori and Rye, might be unusual on paper, perhaps somewhat suspicious recipe, but any adventurous cocktail lover should give it a try.
