Cocktail author: Simon Difford.

Last Word is an old prohibition era cocktail with a serious reputation and endless number of riffs. Dublin Minstrel is one such creation by Simon Difford. It is a great way to illustrate how riffing on existing cocktail recipes works by simply substituting one or two ingredients and adjusting the balance if needed.

Most of the specs for Dublin Minstrel follows the classic Last Word with green chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice blended in equal parts. Where things start to differ is the choice of spirit: subbing Irish whiskey instead of gin, with its light and floral aged whiskey characteristics. It pairs incredibly well with the sweet complex herbal notes of the chartreuse and the cherry sweetness of maraschino liqueur. Balance all that with a healthy dose of tart lime juice and you have yourself a smashing cocktail.

All in all, Dublin Minstrel is a delicious boozy creation that is simple to prepare yet ready to surprise you. It is definitely worth a try.
