For me the appearance of mandarins on the store shelves signifies the approach of Christmas, even though the fruit itself has nothing to do with it, this yearly occurrence slowly acquired this particular meaning. Therefore, a delicious mandarin cocktail seemed appropriate this time of the year.

Base spirit for this cocktail is vodka, the crisp clean spirit playing nice with the rest of the ingredients, but still contributing with its boozy bite to the overall flavour profile. Mandarin flavour is then imparted by Mandarin Napoleon (a mandarin liqueur with distinct cognac base) and a touch of fresh, fragrant mandarin juice. Ginger liqueur then further expands on these notes, while at the same time providing signature ginger sharpness pairing so well with the character of vodka. Lemon juice, brings that, all-important, tartness to the mix, which together with the foamy texture of the egg white makes this cocktail a true sour. And do not forget a little touch of simple syrup which helps to balance out the cocktail, in order to provide the best possible drinking experience.

All in all, Mandarin Vodka Sour is a fun and delicious cocktail to make, especially when the right fruit is in season. So give it a try if you have a chance, it might surprise you.
