Old Friend is probably similar to Old Pal in name only. Yet it is an incredibly delicious cocktail in its own right. I am a big fan of citrusy cocktails and Old Friend was a true discovery for me. The balance between spirit, floral and citrusy ingredients results in a complex and easy to drink cocktail. (I could easily have quite a few of these in one evening.)

Base spirit of the cocktail is a good old London Dry Gin with its juniper forward flavour. It is then paired with bitter-sweet orange notes of Campari, giving the cocktail a subtle Negroni like quality. Grapefruit juice brings fresh and bitter-tart tone, playing well with Campari and brightening up the cocktail. Finally, a touch of elderflower liqueur further increases complexity of the drink by adding a delicate floral component making it much much tastier.

To summarize I can say just one thing, Old Friend is a remarkably delicious sour style cocktail ready to brighten up your evenings.
