Cocktail author: I just followed a classic Spritz template, for a lovely drink. I’m sure it has been done many times before, by many different people, so it is difficult to assign credit to a particular person.

Spritz cocktails are ubiquitous in the summer and I have tried my fair share in last three months. Now, with autumn starting once more, I thought, what better way to mark this occasion, than with one last spritz.

Spritz is a simple cocktail template, that leaves a lot of room for tweaking and experimentation. Two parts amaro, three parts prosecco and one part soda water is a recipe anyone can follow with ease without a lot of equipment or extensive bar inventory. One of the easiest modifications to do is choose a less popular amaro. Luckily, large palette of Italian amari allows for plenty of opportunities. This time I have selected one of my favorites – Averna. Bitter-sweet orange, licorice, sage notes of the amaro, paired with acidic citrus of prosecco creates subtle and, in some ways, more sophisticated flavour fusion, than spritzes we are all accustomed to.

So, if you are feeling like tasting something new, I highly recommend trying it as well as conduct your own experiments with massive selection of amari available.
