Cocktail author: unknown (cocktail origins can be traced back to the very beginning of the XX century).

With springtime picking up the pace, I felt a craving for a cocktail, which perhaps, is more suited for the middle of winter. Nevertheless, it was a while since the last time I had it, so spring was not going to stop me. This time I decided to make Bobby Burns – a scotch-based cocktail influenced by Rob Roy and Manhattan.

Base of the cocktail is formed by blended scotch with notes of vanilla, subtle sweetness of dried fruit and signature oak. Sweet vermouth comes as an influence of Rob Roy and Manhattan, brings taste of sweet caramel, cocoa and botanical elements. It pairs incredibly well with the scotch and at the same time bridges the gap with another ingredient – Benedictine. Sweet, herbal flavour of the Benedictine increases the complexity of the cocktail to a new level, while moving the cocktail a bit more to the sweet side. Last, but not least, lemon peel oils lift the cocktail up with that fragrant aromatic lightness adding a much-needed refreshing tone to the drink.

All in all, Bobby Burns is a true delight, which deserves to be included in your cocktail arsenal, especially if you are a scotch lover. For my personal taste, Bobby Burns is one of the best scotch cocktails I have ever tasted and takes an important place in the recipe rotation.
