Mrs Hendrickx Lemonade Highball

COCKTAIL INGREDIENTS:
- 35 ml Genever
- 25 ml Mandarin Napoleon
- 5 ml Simple Syrup
- 15 ml Fresh Lemon Juice
- 50 ml Soda Water (Chilled)

GARNISH:
- Edible Flower
- Orange Wheel
- Sprig of Mint

INSTRUCTIONS:
• Chill a highball glass and fill it with ice.
• Add chilled soda water and set aside.
• Combine rest of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
• Add ice and shake until chilled.
• Double strain into a prepared cocktail glass.
• Garnish with an edible flower, orange wheel and a sprig of mint.

Lemonade is often the go to refreshment during those warm summer days. However, Mrs Hendrickx Lemonade Highball turns this alcohol-free drink into something completely different. The only thing remaining in common, is pretty much, the word “lemonade” in the title.

Base of the cocktail is, a rather unusual choice, Genever- a malty spirit with gin like herbal and botanical qualities. In simple terms it feels like a cross between unaged scotch and gin, which gives this spirit its unique impact. Genever is then paired with Mandarin Napoleon, a subtle cognac-based liqueur sweetened with Mediterranean mandarin peels, providing a deliciously delicate citrusy aftertaste with a hit of bitterness. These two ingredients define the flavour profile of the drink with other ingredients playing more of a supporting role. Lemon juice adds that refreshing tartness while touch of simple syrup helps to balance the cocktail out. Finally, addition of soda water lengthens the drink with delightful effervescence which in turn increases the perception of acidity.

Mrs Hendrickx Lemonade Highball is an interesting take on the highball: malty with subtle sweetness of mandarins and delicious tartness. Great cocktail for summer garden parties and get-togethers.
