Captain’s Blood are probably not the words that conjure delicious drinks in one’s imagination, but it certainly piques the interest, or at least it did mine. The recipe itself is pretty simple and does not require a lot of ingredients or advanced techniques, but it yields a tasty result.

Jamaican rum forms the base of the cocktail and is strongly present with those funky notes of ripe banana, molasse and vanilla. There is no doubt that rum is the star of this cocktail, so I chose to use Smith and Cross Navy Strength rum, which works very well with these specs and provides quite a kick. Traditional rum pairing with fresh lime juice and simple syrup helps to tame the spirit and add a bit of freshness to the drink similar to daiquiri. Addition of Angostura bitters brings a little touch of complexity bursting with tropical spice notes. Follow that up with a fragrant dehydrated lime wheel and the drink is ready to be enjoyed.

Captain’s Blood might not be the most difficult cocktail on the books, but it is a tasty pick me up and sometimes that is exactly what a person needs. This delicious cold and refreshing rum cocktail will bring you back to life after a hard day’s work.
