Divorce Papers was quite a surprising discovery for me. A gin-based tropical cocktail (not exactly a tiki, but really close) with distinct fruitiness is a true pleasure to drink and it has quite an interesting namesake story to pique one’s interest as well.
Base of the cocktail is London dry gin with familiar juniper notes, not exactly a go to spirit for a tropical drink, but it works here. Aperol brings sweet orange flavour with a hint of bitterness, that pairs very well with the passionfruit and its balance between tart and sweet. A touch of honey syrup adds floral element to the drink which balances out the sharp tartness of lime juice for a best possible drinking experience.
Divorce Papers seems to be named after a short-lived marriage between Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio. However, unlike the actual divorce the cocktail is sweet, fruity and delightful. Drawing inspiration from tiki cocktails of the era (I guess), it can immediately transport you to a sunny tropical paradise where all your troubles disappear almost instantly.
