Cocktail author: 70s cocktail named after the famous 70s film.

The Godfather is one of those rare 70s cocktails that survived till today in a rather good standing. Sure, it lost a lot of its popularity, but that is not too surprising for 50 years have passed. So, love it or hate it, but this cocktail earned its place in the cocktail world and is not going anywhere.

Cocktail build itself is pretty easy just scotch and amaretto. However, countless recipe variations exist, starting with differing quantities and ending with changes to the base spirit, such as subbing it with bourbon, single malt etc. My preferred specs are 60 ml of blended scotch (staying true to the original recipe) bringing tasty woody, smoky, dried fruit notes. Almond forward amaretto brings slightly bitter almond taste with subtle hints of vanilla to the mix, taming the wildness of scotch turning the cocktail into what it is. Some recipes suggest using 30 ml or 7,5 ml of amaretto, but for me 15 ml is the perfect amount, it does not dominate the cocktail, but brings delicious amount of sweetness, clearly present in the drink.

All in all, The Godfather cocktail might not be as good as or better than the movie, but it surely is a cocktail every enthusiast should try and familiarize oneself with even if it is only for the history of it.
