Italian and tiki cocktail cultures do not cross very often, which is why Flamingo Milanese is a very special cocktail. It takes the familiar Campari Shakerato recipe and gives it a delicious tropical spin.

Base of the cocktail is formed by the Campari - a bitter-sweet orange amaro from Milan. It is then paired with vanilla and anise notes of Galliano and supplemented by the subtle earthiness of cachaça. Balance is provided by the lime oleo saccharum (which has a very similar recipe to some lime cordials, so I used a cordial I have prepared earlier) and a touch of tropical tartness of lime juice. A couple of dashes of absinthe emphasizes the flavours of Galliano while at the same time elevating overall cocktail complexity.

Flamingo Milanese is an interesting attempt to merge two quite unique cocktail traditions and the result is tasty to the very last drop. If you like tropical cocktails and would like to try something with a touch bitter sophistication, I highly recommend giving this cocktail a try.
