Iz Bananaz is a deliciously unique tropical cocktail. Cachaça, amaro and banana liqueur seems like a strange combination at first, but take one sip and the mad genius behind this cocktail becomes clear.
Cachaça as a base spirit brings funky, grassy, vegetable notes pairing quite well with the complex bitter-sweet herbal tones of the amaro Montenegro. Further sweetness and delicate fruity twist are provided by the addition of banana liqueur. It takes this cachaça and amaro cocktail in a slightly surprising direction, but it works fantastically well. Touch of fresh lemon juice, brings the essential tartness with subtle floral undertones nicely balancing the cocktail. A dash of Angostura bitters adds that all-important and delicious spice along with the aromatic element of the orange twist garnish finishing the cocktail.
Iz Bananaz as the name suggest, seems like a recipe that should not work, but it did not take long for it to win me over. Sweet, fruity with subtle funkiness and bitterness it is a magnificent tropical cocktail that is absolutely worth a try.
