Kentucky Maid is a refreshing and delicious cocktail utilizing the Maid template combining spirit, lime juice, simple syrup, mint and cucumber with a remarkable effectiveness. Not too surprising when keeping in mind that this drink is a brainchild of Sam Ross, the creator of numerous cocktails now considered to be modern classics.

As the name suggest, base spirit of this cocktail is bourbon with oaky notes of vanilla and caramel. I quite like slightly stronger bourbon around 47-50% in this cocktail, laying a solid foundation. Bourbon is then paired with the summer freshness and coolness of mint and muddled cucumber. Seasonal produce synonymous with hot summer days. Fresh lime juice brings a touch of tartness bringing the cocktail to life with simple syrup providing the balance. Finally, a simple garnish of cucumber and mint adding a little visual element and the drink is ready to be enjoyed.

When looking at the ingredients Kentucky Maid seems to be a rather simple and straightforward cocktail, but sometimes that is exactly what one needs. Simple refreshing and delicious, you can’t go wrong with this cocktail.
