Non rum based tiki or tropical cocktails are rare to come by, with notable exceptions like Saturn or Singapore Sling, and right there next to them you will find The Suffering Bastard.
True to a tiki tradition the cocktail is built around split base of gin and cognac; paring fresh juniper notes of gin with deeper stronger oaky, tabaco and caramel notes of cognac. Additional freshness is supplied by the sharp tartness of lime juice which is then balanced by the rich molasses flavour of demerara syrup. Ginger beer lengthens the drink and brings that satisfying ginger bite to the mix providing the perfect background for those individual notes of other ingredients. Last, but not least, Angostura bitters add a further tropical spice emphasizing the tropical nature of the cocktail.
Suffering Bastard is a great cocktail full of tropical vibes. Perfectly suited for hot summer or simply to bring memories of warm sunny evenings in the middle of winter.
