Cocktail author: Original (with walnut liqueur instead of chestnut) created by Kenny Belanger and Misty Kalkofen.
Sometimes a good nightcap is exactly what you need and Sentimental Gentleman by Kenny Belanger and Misty Kalkofen is one of the best. I really liked this recipe; however, I did not have walnut liqueur at hand and while rummaging through my liqueur cabinet I got an idea of mixing some chestnut liqueur instead. This resulted in a surprising nightcap with a Christmasy twist, not exactly “roasting chestnuts”, but close enough.
Base of the cocktail remains the same: sharp, oaky scotch with notes of dried fruits. It provides a solid foundation for the rest of the cocktail. Benedictine brings sweet, herbal almost honey like taste to the mix, giving an almost Rusty Nail like direction for the drink. Chestnut liqueur adds delicious nutty flavour with subtle hints of caramel, blending seamlessly with other ingredients.
All in all, Sentimental Gentleman with chestnut liqueur works very well, turning the cocktail into a complex, sweet and boozy creation. Perfect note to end the night on or to relax with during the holiday season.
