The Thirsty Monk is an interesting and herbaceous take on a whisky sour. It certainly manages to take an intriguing and refreshing look at this famous cocktail template.

Base of the drink is formed by the sweet oak notes of bourbon, with undertones of nuts and nougat. It is then paired with Génépy and its various sweet herbs slightly reminiscent of a Chartreuse. Benedictine brings tastes of saffron, ginger and cardamom further increasing the complexity of the cocktail. Addition of fresh and tart lemon juice helps to balance the sweeter liqueurs and provide an important refreshing kick. Final touch of Peychaud's Bitters seasons the cocktail and accentuates individual ingredients of the complex herbal liqueurs elevating the drink even further.

The Thirsty Monk is a strong and tasty cocktail, especially if you value complex flavours. A great choice for a transitional time of year, when you need something to keep you warm while waiting for summer sun to appear again.
