In the cocktail world 70s are not considered to be the high point. The time is best known for sweet and not the most complex cocktails such as Tequila Sunrise or Hravey Wallbanger. This is why Allegheny quickly stands out of this pack, having more in common with such classics as Manhattan or Whiskey Sour. Therefore, this recipe was a truly delightful cocktail find.

Base of the cocktail is formed by bourbon and its notes of vanilla mixed with toasted oak. Crème de Mure lends deep fruity sweetness to the cocktail, balanced by the refreshing tartness of lemon. Dry vermouth brings subtle floral and herbal tones bridging the gap between the spirit and the liqueur. Final dash of Angostura bitters adds a bit of topical spice to the tasty and complex cocktail profile.

All in all, Allegheny is a delicious cocktail with fruity notes of the 70s gently blended in. Great cocktail recipe to try after a long and hard day of work.
