This time I would like to bring you a little taste of Portugal to relax with on a warm summer’s day. Amarguinha is a simple cocktail of just two ingredients, but it has an incredible effect, especially in a steaming hot weather.

Base of the cocktail is a bitter-sweet Portuguese almond liqueur – Amarguinha. It naturally brings a marzipan like sweetness to the drink, which on its own would be too much. However, when combined with an equal amount of lemon juice it suddenly starts to shine through all that balancing tartness the lemon brings to the table. Express some lemon peel oils over top, rub it around the edge of the glass and drop it in, or garnish with a fresh lemon twist to enhance the aromatics of the cocktail. With this finishing touch you are ready to enjoy a simple, yet remarkably delicious cocktail in just minutes. (Although planning is key. Pre-chilling the ingredients is a must, so that drink itself is at coldest possible temperature, and then later develops in the glass with added dilution).

Amarguinha is an easy drink to make, but do not let that fool you it can bring you back to life when heat outside simply becomes too much.
