Recipe author: Difficult to determine, there are a couple of theories (one placing origins in post WW2 Japan, other in 70s disco scene), but nobody knows for sure.

I have recently saw an article on Robb Report on a Kamikaze cocktail and how it gets a bad reputation. This intrigued me, so I decided to test it. I have started with an original recipe to taste and while I would not say it is really bad, there was not that much thrilling and original about it. I will be honest, first thing that came to mind was a “less tasteful margarita”. That got me thinking, if it basically follows margarita template, what if one served it in a salt-rimmed glass, I know it brings the two cocktails even closer together, but it did help to make the cocktail a bit more exciting. Essentially it adds an extra step in the story and lets the tastes evolve and gives more complete experience after you take a sip. First you will be greeted by aroma of a lime, then saltiness which prepares you for a wave of sweet booziness that quickly follows.
So, while it may not turn this cocktail into a “best cocktail you ever had” it will certainly enhance the experience.
