There is no better time for a glass of sangria than a hot summer afternoon. So far, I have tried making red wine and rosé sangrias, so the time has come to give it a go at white wine sangria, which accidentally turned out more rose is colour, than the actual rosé.

For the choice of wine, I recommend a dry Spanish white wine, such as Rioja. Its fruity undertones and bone-dry taste profile are perfect for sangria. Enrich that with some summer staples such as strawberries, raspberries, white peaches, citrus by letting them macerate with sugar and infuse the wine and you are on your way towards the fantastic summer refreshment. I have added a few shots of cognac, peach liqueur and Grand Marnier to give it that extra kick and additional taste complexity.

This was my first attempt at creating white wine sangria, and it was a blast. It is a fantastic drink to play around with because of its endless possibilities. I highly recommend trying the recipe and giving it your own personal twist.
