Cocktail author: I have decided to test this recipe on my own, but I’m sure somebody already had this idea way before me.

With the summer starting, one starts looking for cool and refreshing cocktail recipes for the barbeques and terrace parties lying just around the corner. Spritz is a perfect cocktail template for this purpose - not too complicated and does not take long time to prepare. However, instead of turning to the ubiquitous Aperol spritz I suggest you deviate a little bit this year and give Cynar a try.

Cynar with its deep, bitter and earthy artichoke notes is a solid amaro for a spritz. Tipping the scales of the otherwise sweet drink to a much more bitter side with a bit of darkness. Paired with fruity and floral aromas of prosecco it created a lovely and delicious fusion. Modest addition of soda water lengthens the drink and more importantly tames the bold Cynar. Add some orange garnish and the drink is ready to be enjoyed.

I will be honest I’m not the biggest fan of Aperol spritz, but I believe that its classic ratio of 2-3-1 can be used with so many different Italian amaros, opening the doors for almost unlimited opportunities. So, give this untraditional artichoke amaro a chance in a form of spritz this summer.
