Fernet-Branca can be quite polarizing amaro/liqueur, for most people you either love it or hate it. However, if you get familiar with it, step by step: starting with cocktails seasoned with just a couple of drops and eventually graduating to a full-on shot, one can start really appreciating this amaro.

As you probably guessed the base of The Alligator is Fernet-Branca with striking earthy notes reinforced by menthol and bitter-sweet palate. Amaro is then softened by sweet tones of orange from the triple sec and tropical spice of cinnamon blending into overall fierce and complex cocktail flavour profile. Balance is provided by an addition of sharp tartness of lime juice, keeping the sweet and bitter components in check.

In the end The Alligator, might not be everyday cocktail suited for everyone, but I believe it can be a hit with your cocktail loving friends and it is absolutely worth a try.
